July 1, 2018 our 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX suffered catastrophic engine failure at 93,000 miles. Purchased the vehicle at a ” Subaru ” dealership as a ” Certified Pre-Owned ” vehicle with 63,000 on it and 100,000 warranty. SOA not willing to honor the warranty. Currently appealing their decision but need ” expert ” advice to assist with appeal.

It really comes down to why the engine failed. If the engine was ran out of oil it will be hard case to fight. Subarus are common for oil consumption and that is why the engines usually blow up. Long oil change intervals and the engine oil burns away and you’ll probably never even see it smoke because of the catalytic converters. You should still check oil level and expect to top it off in between oil changes especially if it’s over 100k.
